Statistics should feel understandable.
StatSprout is a nonprofit learning platform for students in grades 3 through 12. We think most people do not find statistics hard — they find it invisible.
Why this exists
A formula can be memorised without ever being understood
Most students meet statistics as a list of procedures: a mean here, a standard deviation there, a test to run when a question looks a certain way. The procedures are learnable. What is missing is the picture underneath them — what a distribution actually looks like, why a sample can mislead you, what a correlation does and does not entitle you to say.
Without that picture, statistics stays a subject you pass rather than a tool you use. And it is a tool students need well before university: every claim they scroll past is a number someone chose how to present.
StatSprout is a nonprofit learning platform built to make statistics, probability, and data literacy genuinely understandable. We turn abstract formulas into visual stories, interactive activities, and real-world problems for elementary, middle, and high school students, so learners build confidence at their own pace instead of memorizing disconnected rules.
Our mission
That is the whole idea, and it is why the site looks the way it does. The landing page is a seed opening into a plant because that is the shape of the thing being taught: one question, followed down, branching into everything else.
How we teach it
Three things every course does
Build in a sequence
Six courses run in order, each assuming only what came before it. A student in grade 5 and a student sitting AP Statistics are on the same ladder, at different rungs.
Practise on real claims
The point of data literacy is arguing with a headline, a poll, or a chart someone drew to persuade you. Later courses work on exactly that material.
Where we are
Commitments, not milestones
StatSprout is young. These are counted from the live curriculum — not students reached or schools signed, because those numbers do not exist yet and an estimate would be a fabrication.
