Statistics grows with you.

Three levels off one root, from a first tally chart in grade 3 to inference in grade 12. Each one assumes only what the one below it taught.

Data is information, and information answers questions

Students meeting data for the first time. No statistics vocabulary is assumed and none is used before it has been shown.

The work is physical and visual: counting, sorting, tallying, and reading a picture graph. A student finishes able to ask a question their own class can answer, collect the answers, and say what the data shows.

What you should already know
Comfortable counting and comparing numbers. Nothing else.

Middle · Grades 5–9

From reading a graph to reasoning about a distribution

Students who can read a chart and are ready to ask whether it is telling the truth.

Centre and spread stop being formulas to apply and become descriptions of a shape. Probability arrives, sampling arrives, and with them the first real question in statistics: how much of what I am seeing is the world, and how much is chance?

Inference, evidence, and the arguments people build from data

Students taking statistics as a course, preparing for AP, or wanting to read the data in front of them properly. Three routes share this level.

Sampling distributions, confidence, significance, and regression — plus the applied side: what a headline is doing when it reports a relative risk, and what a truncated axis hides. Every route ends in a full investigation of the student's own.

What you should already know
Algebra, and comfort with proportional reasoning. The AP route assumes the middle level's material or its equivalent.
