High School Statistics Foundations

High School Statistics Foundations gives grades 9-12 students a complete, non-AP statistics foundation: categorical and quantitative data, collecting data soundly, probability, random variables, and relationships between variables. Students finish with a full statistical research project, from question to presented findings — preparation for AP Statistics, research, or data science.

Course journey

Follow the ideas as they grow

9 units, in the order they build on each other. Each unit's question is the thing it exists to answer.

  1. Statistical Thinking

What precise vocabulary and notation distinguish a population from a sample, and a parameter from a statistic?

    5 lessons · 125 min

  2. Categorical Data

How do you formally describe and compare entire distributions of a categorical variable, not just one percentage at a time?

    6 lessons · 150 min

  3. One-Variable Quantitative Data

What does it take to fully and formally describe a quantitative distribution's shape, center, and spread?

    7 lessons · 175 min

  4. Comparing Distributions

How do you compare values that come from entirely different distributions?

    6 lessons · 150 min

  5. Collecting Data

What specifically makes an experiment — not just a sample — able to support a claim of causation?

    7 lessons · 175 min

  6. Probability

How do formal set notation and multi-stage reasoning let you solve probability problems too complex for a single rule?

    7 lessons · 175 min

  7. Random Variables

How do you summarize an entire random process with just a few numbers?

    6 lessons · 150 min

  8. Relationships Between Variables

How do you quantify a linear relationship precisely, model it with an equation, and know when to trust that model?

    7 lessons · 175 min

  9. Statistical Research Project

What does it take to design, execute, and honestly report a real statistical research project?

    7 lessons · 175 min
